What is Somewhere?

Somewhere Co-operative Housing Association (SCHA) was registered as a cooperative in 1979 by a group of people who were disillusioned with private rented accommodation and wanted to take control of their housing conditions and to live co-operatively.

Renting in the UK but particularly in Bristol is increasingly unaffordable, and many people do not have enough money to buy a home.

As a result, there is ever greater pressure in the rented housing market with high rents being the norm in Bristol.

There is a real need for affordable social housing in Bristol and SCHA has in a small way contributed to meeting this need.

SCHA leased its first house (four flats) in 1980 and became a fully fledged housing association in 1981.

SCHA now 14 dwellings spread across Southville, Bedminster and Knowle.
